Reading and Writing in Science & Social Studies
K-2 Students, including Emergent Bilinguals



During this interactive workshop, K-2 teachers will gain tools and strategies for implementing reading and writing into the science and social studies curriculum. We will also cover ways to support emerging bilingual students.

Participants will:

  • Learn the importance of building background knowledge and vocabulary in science and social studies to improve reading comprehension and writing abilities
  • Learn ways to support STAAR-tested grade levels in K-2
  • Practice strategies for incorporating reading and writing into science and social studies
  • Create science and social studies lesson plans that integrate reading and writing
  • Learn ways to support K-2 emerging bilingual students in science and social studies
