The Importance of Progressing from Conceptual to Procedural in Mathematics
For Math Teachers in Grade 5

Exploring and Examining Math Concepts Through Hands On Manipulatives and Representations

Important Session Information:

There are countless benefits to using representations, both hands on and pictorial representations into our math classrooms. Through representations our students:

  • explore, visualize, and make sense of math concepts and processes
  • strengthen their ability to communicate their mathematical thinking
  • visualize, simplify, and solve math problems.

Come and experience fifth grade math through representations and explore the benefits of allowing students to move from the concrete to the abstract.

As a result of today's learning, participants will be able to:

  • guide students into deeper math understanding
  • respond to the challenges of their math curriculum
  • support students who are struggling, excelling, and anywhere in between.
