Engaging Reluctant Readers and Writers

In this workshop we will explore ways to motivate students who seem disengaged from the reading and writing process while examining specific reasons students might be reluctant.  We'll then go step-by-step through specific supports we can offer and key strategies we can use to give students voice and choice in their reading. We'll also take an initial look at ways we can extend reading into high-interest projects that can build student confidence.

Highlights:

  • examine the importance of reading and writing to for connections and deepen comprehension
  • the importance of teaching with read alouds
  • hands on project based activities

After completing this workshop, you will be equipped with the knowledge and resources you need to transform your classroom into a place where students embrace the reading and writing processes. You will not only feel confident in giving students more autonomy in their reading, but you will also have a plan for empowering each and every one of your students.
