Meaningful Writing -and Reading-Instruction in an Age of Testing
4th-8th Grade RLA Teachers

Presenter Melanie Mayer taught high school and college English for over thirty years. She is the winner of several outstanding teacher awards, including Humanities Texas, Texas Exes, and HEB Excellence in Education; and she is the author of numerous articles and two books. Her humorous and inspirational teacher trainings are popular across Texas.

Participants will learn model instructional strategies and activities that engage today's students and elevate their reading and writing abilities.

This workshop includes:

  • Response writing
  • Expository and argumentative writing
  • Revision activities
  • Connecting and analyzing various genres
  • Fresh grammar and poetry instruction
  • Using classroom curriculum reading to teach writing and analyze style

Teachers will receive a materials packet.
