Reading, Writing and Responding Across the Content Areas
K-3 Math, Science, Social Studies, RLA

It's a fact that reading, writing, and responding are foundational for ALL content areas, not just the Reading Language Arts block!

We also know that the future of STAAR will include:

  • Reading across a variety of different content areas.
  • Responding to questions by writing thoughtful answers, supported by text evidence.

K-3 teachers will learn ways to incorporate more literacy skills into their science, social studies, and math instruction.

During the workshop, K-3 math, science, and social studies teachers will:

  • Explore strategies for increasing student engagement through discussion in the content areas.
  • Learn reading strategies to help improve comprehension of science and social studies texts as well as math problems.
  • Utilize scaffolds for improving writing in math, science, and social studies.
  • Identify routines that will ensure students are writing thoughtful answers supported by text evidence.
