ELAR STAAR-Preparation from Day 1
(6-8) Beginning with the End in Mind

The idea of this training is to be aware of the strengths and needs of students and teachers and prepare for the end-goal so we can do away with last-minute STAAR-Cramming.

Important Session Information:

Every spring, there are "Just in Time" or "STAAR Crunch" workshops to get us ready for what's going to be assessed.  To borrow a great mindset, I think it would be best if we start out with that end in mind.  Each time we prepare a lesson, select a text, or upload a video, we should be asking ourselves, "How will this impact what students should know and be able to do?"

In order to prepare ourselves for next year, we will be working with:

  • The 3 Reporting Categories
  • The Seven Strands
  • Your class's High-Priority Standards
  • Your data

to plan for the upcoming year of what skills need to be scaffolded, what needs to be spiraled, and what needs differentiation.

T-TESS/T-PESS:
Dimension 1.1: Standards and Alignment, Dimension 1.2: Data and Assessment, Dimension 1.3: Knowledge of Students, Dimension 1.4: Activities, Dimension 2.1: Achieving Expectations, Dimension 2.2: Content Knowledge and Expertise, Dimension 2.4: Differentiation, Dimension 2.5: Monitor and Adjust, Dimension 3.1: Classroom Environment, Routines and Procedures, Dimension 4.2: Goal Setting
