Forensic Field Day (A Full Day of Forensics)

Forensics Dental Analysis - Join us as we introduce forensic dentistry and attempt to identify a  suspect in the case. We will work on creating a dental chart, dental castings, bite impressions, and using dental records for patient identification.

Entomology -  Bodies are discovered in a cabin  that were unrecognizable, they were decomposing and had large maggot masses on them. We we will learn how forensic entomologists use maggots to determine the post mortem interval (PMI). We  will then examine exemplars of the life stages of two fly species and develop their own personal key for distinguishing between life stage and species

Hair and Fiber Analysis -   Learn how to determine the species of origin from a hair sample, differentiate between natural and synthetic fibers, and perform tests to identify the specific type of fiber. We will be using  observational skills and a compound microscope to examine the morphological characteristics of hair and fiber.
