While the school year is still new and once schedules are set, students with disabilities may need visual (and sometimes tactual) supports to learn and follow their new schedules. In this session, special education teachers will have the opportunity to make their students' visual and tactual schedules that meet the unique communication needs of the students. Individual schedules is part of the T-TESS Domain 1 Classroom Climate. These schedules should be in formats that students understand, should be in place for students that need additional structure even beyond the class schedule, and should be used consistently as organizational strategies. This session is especially recommended for special education teachers who serve students with disabilities in self-contained classroom, including serving students with sensory impairments.
Attendees must bring their students' individualized schedules, and must be familiar with the communication and structure needs of each student. Materials for making the schedules will be provided.
