Writing with the Six-Traits gives teachers and students a focus. Using Writing Performance Assessments also gives the teachers and students a focus. Teachers will be taken through a demonstration of how to plan for a Writing Performance Assessment through the lens of the Six-Traits. Teachers will then practice planning for a writing performance assessment with partners.
In this way, students are not overwhelmed with all the different aspects that they could be graded on. Also, teachers are not overwhelmed with the number of direct instruction mini-lessons they are having to plan or the focus of grading.
Participants are encouraged to bring student work samples to use.
