Donna Boucher (Grades 3-5)

June 13th - Grades (3-5)

Conceptual understanding is developed through extensive concrete and representational (pictorial) experiences, but too often students are rushed to the abstract level. Learn how the CRA sequence of instruction supports the development of number sense, the connection between CRA and the TEKS, and common misconceptions about CRA that stand in the way of student learning. In addition, we’ll explore how learning to flexibly compose and decompose numbers leads to computational fluency, both with whole numbers and fractions. Finally, we’ll follow the progression for learning multiplication and division that leads to the standard algorithm.
