Texas Dyslexia Academy 1: Foundations
Module 2: Dyslexia Evaluation



Texas Dyslexia Academy 1: Dyslexia Foundations is the first of six training opportunities developed to assist educators to better understand dyslexia and related disorders. In this course, participants learn foundational information about how students acquire reading skills, why some students struggle in reading, what dyslexia is, and warning signs that dyslexia may be causing a student’s reading difficulties. The objectives for this course are:

  • Explore the elements of reading
  • Define dyslexia, its characteristics, and related disorders
  • Explore the common risk factors for dyslexia
  • Understand associated academic difficulties

TAC §232.11 requires educators who teach students with dyslexia to have CPE training in new research and practices in educating students with dyslexia.*

*Successful completion of TDA 1 may satisfy this requirement, per local district policy.


Important Session Information:


Module 2 is the second of five modules to assist school districts and charter schools in the identification of students with dyslexia.  The objectives of Module 2 are to review the why and when for assessing dyslexia.  Module 2 will also review the processes for dyslexia assessment and related disorders as outlined in The Dyslexia Handbook, 2014.
