For student success on STAAR reading, students must be provided in-depth instruction in all genres represented by the ELA/R TEKS. Genres should not be taught in isolation and/or at only one point in the school year. The best way to teach reading is by theme. When students read thematically related works, they are able to connect the ideas and characters to their own lives and to other works as well. Participants will learn how to develop units of study that encompass all genres to teach the skills and strategies needed for success on STAAR.
This session will address instructional strategies, approaches, and methodologies for sub-populations included but not limited to ELLs,
