The intersection between a language difference and a language-based disability is not always clear and separating these differences often requires a broader set of skills than the monolingual evaluator possesses. This session will add to the skill set of monolingual evaluators when identifying language-based disorders.
Personnel that work with identification of bilingual students will learn to collect & interpret more relevant information & to provide a more accurate assessments,Personnel that work with students with a learning disability, will be able to use informal data to help implement RtI strategies.
The participant will:
· Understand typical second language acquisition
· Be able to administer and score informal language assessments
· Understand the process of identifying EL suspected of SLD
· Be able to select norm-referenced measures appropriate for EL
