Social and Emotional Learning Resources for students with Autism

This day-long session aims to equip a range of school-based professionals with abundant, ready-to-use lessons, activities and games that they can use immediately in their classrooms and offices. Each participant will be shown how to access Joel’s website, autismteachingstrategies.com, and to download and use at least 25 free printout games, activities, worksheets, PowerPoints and lessons on the topics of social interaction, social communication and emotional regulation. The presenter will clearly explain the materials, and in short, practical, hands-on breakout sessions participants will practice using a number of them. Among the many games and activities featured are: card activities and worksheets to promote learning about peers; picture card-matching activities to help find common ground in conversation; handson activities to troubleshoot some basic elements of interaction; engaging activities to explore difficult emotions and how to cope with them. The material presented is applicable for cooperative, verbal children with ASD ages 6 to young adult.
