The Flip Side of Giftedness: Understanding Social and Emotional Awareness and Overexcitabilities in Gifted People

Giftedness traditionally has been defined as achievement or potential for achievement, and we differentiate our classrooms accordingly; however, there are distinguishing characteristics across the gifted spectrum that sometimes impede student learning.

Gifted students with asynchronous development, heightened intensities, overexcitabilities, and varying social and emotional temperaments often have their expectations lumped together as a group. This leads to frustration in the student, teacher, and parent.

In this session will look at understanding the personalities of gifted students so we can improve their learning and socialization and discuss ways to support, motivate, and respond to gifted students.

We are passionately committed to developing and nurturing healthy, thriving learning communities across Region 17 by guiding and supporting schools in their quest for excellence.
