Understanding the TEKS and Lesson Planning
Presented by Marie Riley

This session is geared to develop the knowledge and skills of teachers in Domain 1: Planning and Preparation and Domain 2: Classroom Instruction.  This session provides beginning teachers in all grade levels an understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).  Participants focus on unpacking the standards and learn whether they are emphasizing learning content or processes and what other knowledge and skills, and context are implied by the standard. Teachers learn how to write quality objectives, I Can, We will statements and I will statements.   Teachers have the opportunity to practice this skill using their own TEKS and then apply what they have learned to their lesson plans for the following week.  Participants will learn the components of quality lesson planning that are identified in the book Get Better Faster.  They learn how to develop rigorous instruction aligned with the standards.  The scientific- based research used in this session is from the Texas Education Agency and Get Better Faster.
