8:15 AM- 11:15 AM
Short- and Extended-Constructed Responses will be the topics of the day. What is the formula that TEA is looking for? What do I teach my students to include in their answers? What is the difference between the old essays and the new Extended-Constructed Responses?
The agenda of the day:
- We will QUICKLY review the STAAR Redesign and Constructed Responses.
- Teachers will deconstruct and analyze the example prompts into the components to teach.
- Teachers will analyze example responses for strengths, weaknesses, structure, and teaching opportunities.
- Teachers will analyze composition passages for quotes, paraphrasing, and proof of responses.
Teachers will leave with a plan of how to create short-constructed response questions based on texts, a structure to teach students (as well as one that helps look for the correct answer), and how to model the thinking, the answering, and the writing of answers.
