Region 17 and South Plains College Welding Technology program is hosting a 2 1/2 -day workshop for High School Teachers that will include training and testing in welding inspection and GMAW V-groove plate welding & test.
Day One: Teachers will be trained according to AWS B5.1:2013 – AMD1, Specification for the Qualification of Welding Inspectors. Upon passing a written and hands-on welding inspection test, the teachers will be Qualified Welding Inspectors according to AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code and will receive documentation of their training and testing.
Day Two: Teachers will learn how to perform a Welder Qualification Test on a 3G GMAW V-groove plate weld. Teachers will learn how to prepare the plate weld for a Guided Bend Test and how to evaluate test specimens according to AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code. This is the most common type of welder qualification test used in industry. Upon successful completion of the workshop, teachers will be able to administer the AWS Welder Qualification Tests to their students and provide documentation of the test results.
Day Three (1/2 day continuation of day 2): Since teachers must pass written and hands-on welding inspection test, ½ day of additional lab activities will be provided in order to practice welding skills and promote higher inspection test pass rate results.
