Reading, Noting, & Writing from Sources Effectively
Addressing Cross-Curricular Texts in the RLA Classroom

Educators will be working to understand and plan with the process of having students read from different sources, analyze and synthesize information, and ultimately write clearly and effectively.

Important Session Information:

TEA has told us the number of passages with cross-curricular links on the Reading STAAR will continue to increase until the Spring of 2024.  At that point,100% of informational selections on the grades 3-EOC STAAR will have a cross-curricular link.

During this workshop, teachers will be taken through the process of working with cross-curricular passages and teaching how evidence becomes a staple in student responses, both vocal and written.  Educators will be taken through the process of teaching students how to read closely, finding out what complex texts are saying. Educators will understand how to teach students how to understand the purpose and use of evidence.  Annotation practices will be taught and the process of discussing those complex texts will be practiced. Finally, educators will be shown how students can, through this whole process, write a response to a complex text.
