Day 1: Meet John R. Erickson, author of Hank the Cowdog and walk through how to use the Ranch Life Learning books and activities in your classroom. NRHC staff will walk educators through the entire set of curriculum, demonstrate activities. Mr. Erickson will visit with teachers and answer questions. All attendees will receive a complete set of Ranch Life Books and an activity binder. A chuckwagon lunch will be provided. Ranch Life Learning materials are aimed at 3rd – 5th grades, but can be easily adapted to older and younger grade levels.
Day 2: Porch Talk: A Conversation about Archaeology in the Texas Panhandle. Aimed at 7th grade, this new book by John R. Erickson and Douglas K. Boyd provides an opportunity for educators to use this one of a kind book in the social studies classroom. All attendees will receive a copy of the book and learn how to access TEKS aligned social studies activities that accompany it. John R. Erickson and Douglas K. Boyd will be special guests at the session to discuss the book, why they wrote it and answer any questions from educators. A chuckwagon lunch will be provided.
Day 3: Connecting Social Studies Process Skills to Texas History. Join us at Region 17 for day 3 of this training. We will be focusing on our social studies skills and... The Portal to Texas History folks from the University of North Texas will be debuting their new Texas History resource, Texas History for Teachers, TH4T, and will show all the great resources in the Portal.
Join us for all three days or do a combination of Day1/3 or Day2/3, depending on what grade level you teach!
