Preparing Students for High School English End-of-Course Success

Veteran educators may have experienced old standards and state exams being replaced by new ones. Younger teachers have not. If you have never experienced a TEKS or test shift, or if you have just forgotten what that was like, we are here with a few important reminders for you.

This professional development session will focus on helping teachers understand the current High School RLA TEKS and will offer instructional strategies focused on preparing students for success in high school English courses.

The workshop also includes an overview of the current direction high school English is headed, emphasizing the relationships among standards, instruction, and assessment. Participants will practice reading and writing strategies designed to deepen understanding of text and learn strategies for crafting written responses. We will also look at future types of EOC questions as we currently understand them.
