We will be experiencing, discussing, and tailoring strategies that get students to write every day in Social Studies so students learn and understand at a deeper level.
To the Social Studies Teacher: The intent is not for you to take on the role of assigning historical biographies or grading an expository essay, making sure every punctuation mark is in its place, every sentence has both a subject and a predicate, and that there are no dangling participles! We want students to understand what they are reading through their writing in your classrooms.
To the Reading Language Arts Teacher: You will not be expected to list the dates of every major war throughout the world's history. You don't have to know the different views of the Democratic Vice Presidents on the national budget. We want your students to understand how to approach this type of text, informational text, and be able to write their thoughts, their questions, and their conclusions about what they've learned.
Join us to discover how to put the reading, the writing, the discovery back into your students' hands.
