Grade 1 - Mathematics Achievement Academy - Blended Follow-Up: Problem Solving and Discourse (2021)



You must have attended an Original Academy to register for the Blended Follow-Ups.


In the Mathematics Achievement Academy: Problem Solving and Discourse, Grade 1, participants will

  1. build knowledge and understanding of a problem-solving heuristic that applies to any mathematical content strand;
  2. identify actions of a proficient problem solver;
  3. build knowledge and understanding of mathematical discussions that complement the use of a problem-solving heuristic;
  4. build knowledge and understanding of formative assessment strategies that focus on making student thinking within the phases of the problem-solving model visible to the teacher; and
  5. build knowledge and understanding of five practices that support mathematical discourse to strengthen student voice and agency with a problem-solving heuristic.

Important Session Information:


This is a three-part academy. 

Day One - 3 hours online via Zoom

Self-paced online session (12 hours)

Day Two - 3 hours online via Zoom (March 31st)
