We CAN Communicate
Core Vocabulary and Teaching Strategies



This workshops is designed for staff serving students with complex access and communication needs and will address evidence-based practices for improving instructional practices in the areas of differentiated instruction and social communication. This session will address methods for creating communication opportunities, the importance of core vocabulary and outline teaching strategies. District or SSA staff are encouraged to attend in teams.

Important Session Information:


In this session we will focus on the value of core vocabulary in the classroom and in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems. We will also discuss strategies for implementing core vocabulary in the classroom, including embedding core vocabulary into instruction and lesson planning. Effective and evidence-based communication partner training skills will also be introduced and practiced with core vocabulary low-tech boards.

This session will be held in person at the ESC 17 with health and safety protocols in place.

This program has been approved for 5 clock hours of continuing education credit for SLPs by the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA). TSHA approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.
