Reading is comprised of Word Recognition and Language Comprehension.
In this first session, we will look at the basis of Skilled Reading: Word Recognition. Participants will watch a short video taking them through the basics of Scarborough's Reading Rope, its connection to the Reading Language Arts TEKS, and focus on sounds, letters, and words. Because Secondary TEKS do not include the "Beginning Reading and Writing" sub-strand", we will be exploring Elementary's Student Expectations.
Participants will then have a chance to dig deep into the TEKS, reflect on struggling readers in their own classroom, and brainstorm ideas on how to implement those practices with their students one-on-one or in small group settings.
Please Note: This is a self-paced workshop. Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email with a video link and a Google Document. All Homework must be turned in by December 15 for credit.
