The interconnected nature of the thinking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the New RLA TEKS must be central and explicit so that the skills central to literacy development are taught as both integrated and recursive.
In this session we will examine how to incorporate interdisciplinary themes to increase depth and complexity in thinking, listening, speaking, reading, and writing in our high school English classes. We will spend a virtual Zoom session examining the elements of depth and complexity as well as effective ideas or concepts that can be tied to content.
Teachers will be allotted the second part of the day for planning for next school year, aligning TEKS, generating themes, pulling resources, and developing activities and instructional strategies compatible with how the brain processes information.
The virtual room will remain open to ask questions and brainstorm or teachers may choose to work on their own.
It is recommended that participants have had an overview session of the New TEKS or have reviewed them thoroughly.
High School English teachers may use this workshop for a G/T update.
