Curriculum connections make learning more meaningful for students. It allows them the opportunity to immediately apply their learning in the real world. When teachers work together to help students understand math in the context of science, to understand social studies in the context of reading, to research science or social studies topics, write about their reading, embed comprehension and vocabulary across the curriculum in a common approach, we can truly promote deep learning opportunities.
Attend this session with your planning team to learn how to make a conscious effort to plan rich, rigorous lessons/units without content-isolation. Participants will learn how to align their scope and sequence across the content, make connections, create a central idea or theme for establishing and prioritizing daily lessons. Teachers will craft a lesson/unit of study that shares a theme or central idea that allows students to continue practicing and developing the big ideas from each of the core content areas while highlighting connections across and between core content areas.
