Empowering the Resiliency of Teenagers: Understanding & Responding to Self-Harm Behavior Through a Trauma-Informed Attachment-Based Lens
Through this training, professionals will receive information regarding the brain science behind self-harm and other self-destructive behaviors of teens, common myths and truths, assessing for underlying issues of connection to self and others, and differentiating between self-harm, morbid thinking, and suicidal ideation. Professionals will also receive training on effective treatment protocols through utilizing Trauma-Informed language and the Attachment and Family Systems Theories. We will discuss and practice these ideas through looking at case studies and hands on application. We will look at how specific DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) tools can be utilized, as well as utilizing metaphorical language, parental education, and the power of connection between student and teacher/school counselor.
