Walsh Audio Conference - Special Education Legal Updates
Getting to Kumbaya: Encouraging Meaningful Parent Participation in Your ARD Meetings

The Region 17 Education Service Center is pleased to provide the 2018-19 Special Education Audio Conferences by Walsh, Gallegos, Trevino, Russo, and Kyle P.C. Attorneys at Law.  The live broadcast will be provided on site at the Region 17 Education Service Center.  If you are unable to attend the live broadcast, an audio copy will be available for interested school personnel.

Important Session Information:

Here’s a test of your special education savvy:  Do you know the ‘three-notice rule’ for ARD committee meetings?  If you said “Yes,” this audio conference is for YOU.  There is no three-notice rule! Hearing officers and courts that judge whether parents participated in ARD committee meetings are looking at so much more than ARD committee meeting invitations.

This audio conference will review the legal cases and discuss experiences helping school districts meet the requirements of IDEA.   Real examples and sensible guidance to help you show there was “meaningful” participation by parents in each ARD will be presented.

• What does “meaningful” parent participation look like?
• How long do we have meet?
• What does the law expect when we are meeting with parents who speak other languages?
• How should we document it all?

Join speakers, Elvin Houston and Hank Bostwick, for a practical discussion of everything from scheduling ARD committee meetings with busy parents to finalizing critical ARD documents.
