TEA STAAR Alternate 2 Performance Reporting Presentation
Data Review for Region 17 Directors and District Testing Coordinators



TEA's STAAR Alternate 2 Manager meets face-to-face with Region 17 Special Education Directors and District Testing Coordinators during a Statewide ESC tour for Performance Reporting Presentation.  Hard copies of STAAR Alternate 2 data is provided for all Region 17 Districts whose percentage of students who took the alternate test exceeded 1% (referring to the USDE requirement for no more than 1% of students in the State of Texas to take the alternate assessment, and the TEA-submitted waiver to that USDE requirement).  This 3-hour presentation will be beneficial for all attending Directors and DTCs.

Important Session Information:


Angie Wilkins, STAAR Alternate 2 Manager from TEA will conduct this face-to-face meeting at Region 17 as part of TEA's Implementation Plan with USDE regarding another waiver submission to allow Texas to exceed the 1% cap on the number of students who particiipate in the alternate assessment for the 2019-2020 school year.  TEA is meeting with each Regional ESC and the intended audience for this session is LEA Directors of Special Education and Directors of Assessment/Accountability (aka District Testing Coordinators) along with appropriate Regional staff.  Should you have questions about this session, please contact Deanne Goen, Region 17, at deannegoen@esc17.net or 806-281-5712.

Session Description as provided by TEA
This session will provide guidance to districts/charter schools who are exceeding the 1% participation rate for STAAR Alternate 2.  TEA Student Assessment staff will meet with district/charter school testing and special education leadership at the regional service center. Participants with be provided with information which will include a process for reviewing data specific to each LEA and region. Each district/charter school attending will receive training on five steps LEAs can take to ensure that ARD committees are making assessment decisions that result in the most appropriate assessment for each student.
