Legislative Budget Forum
Forum to Review 2019-2020 Budget Topics Related to Recent Legislation

With some of the most significant legislation affecting school district budgets we have seen in many years, ESC17 will be hosting a forum to allow districts to share information of what we know so far. The focus will be on legislation that impacts the budget, including the state minimum salary increases, the revenue increases through formula changes, tax rate changes, and more. We are pleased Ronn Garcia with the Underwood Law firm will also be a part of the forum. Ronn has a wealth of experience in school district law practice and will have valuable insights in the discussionsESC17 will have some information to share, but we really want this to be an open forum and discussion so districts may share what they have heard from attending updates and meetings . Many things have mentioned the language included in the legislation, but fail to give guidance on how to implement the legislation so you may get a budget prepared. By working with others and hearing others thoughts and challenges, we hope to arrive with some practical solutions.

Important Session Information:

We plan to begin at 9:00 am and the room will be available until 4:00 pm. If you cannot stay the entire time, we hope you can come for at least half of the day.

We will also offer the option to participate in the forum discussion via Live Video Conference. This opportunity will allow school districts who are unable to attend the chance to view and interact in the discussion from their personal computer/laptop (please note that in order to participate in this option, you must have a webcam set up). If you wish to participate via Video Conference, please contact Zia Flores at zflores@esc17.net by Thursday, June 20th so we may send you the information/link to join the workshop.

This session will be an open free discussion concerning legislative changes, we ask that you contact us with any topics you would like to hear or discuss at the forum. Please send all topics you want included in the forum discussion by email before Tuesday, June 25th to Zia Flores at zflores@esc17.net. Please also forward any information and resources you think will be helpful regarding topics you want to discuss as well.
