Going Deeper, Getting More Complex: Incorporating Depth and Complexity Icons into Gifted Lessons
You are familiar with Sandra Kaplan’s 11 icons of Depth and Complexity, but you are unsure of what to do next. In this workshop, we will look at taking our lessons and activities to the next level by infusing them with Big Ideas, Details, Patterns, Trends, Language of the Discipline, Rules, Ethics, and Unanswered Questions. We will see how looking at content across disciplines over time through multiple perspectives opens up a new world of critical thinking for our students. In addition, we will combine them with the content imperatives and peek in on the new icons of depth and complexity. Teachers who are familiar with the icons of depth and complexity will benefit most from this training.
