High School English Support Series: Teaching Informational Text
Good expository and persuasive text is always “more than meets the eye.” When we read a writer’s words, we understand that the writer is telling us more than what is literally on the page. In this session, we will look at how good high school English instruction challenges a student's ability to connect with text, make connections between texts, and discern layers of meaning within text – skills that are vital to student success on the STAAR EOC. We will examine strategies and activities to improve student reading and writing skills in summarizing, inferencing, connecting, organizing and concluding informational texts.
