Title III SSA: Exploring Additional Tools to Develop Phonemic Awareness for ELs



English Learners can have significant gaps in phonemic awareness and affects their spelling, reading, and writing.  Using tools such as Tucker Signing can help children develop phonemic awareness through the identification and relationship between the twenty-seven English graphemes (letters) and most of their corresponding phonemes (sounds).   For children learning a second language (L2), providing a mental model to reinforce explicit phonics instruction to support reading success.  We will do a book study and look at implementation when working with EL students and how it benefits all your students.

Participants will be provided with the Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading Book for additional book study and classroom implementation.
