NonViolent Crisis Intervention (CPI)
Refresher Training

The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program is a safe, nonharmful behavior management system designed to help provide the best care, welfare, safety and security to those involved in crisis situations. This program focuses on prevention and teaches that physical intervention is to be used only as a last resort, when a student presents an imminent danger to self or others. All physical interventions are designed to be nonharmful and to maintain the student's dignity. The initial workshop is for participants who are new to CPI and/or their certificate is expired, and the refresher workshop is for participants who are renewing their certificate.

Participants must be in good physical health (capable of bending,lifting,etc.). Please dress comfortably and wear closed toe shoes.

The following is a link to the Texas Behavioral Support Initiative (TBSI) training modules which are designed to provide foundational knowledge for the use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports for students with disabilities as well as with all students. Senate Bill 1196 and the Texas Administrative Code §89.1053 require staff to document completion of this training in addition to de-escalation/restraint specific courses such as the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training. These modules are provided by Region 4 via an online learning format. You must create an account through Region 4 in order to access the session.
