The Direct Verification Lab will be available for Contracting Entities (CEs) participating in the National School Lunch Program/School Breakfast Program (NSLP/SBP) that collect school meal program applications. This lab does not apply to districts that participate in CEP or Provision 2. The lab setting will be available all day to allow CEs to come and go and receive assistance with the DV process from Child Nutrition Specialists.
Direct Verification (DV) is the use of public records to verify a student's eligibility for free or reduced price meals without contacting the household when verification of a student's eligibility is required. DV streamlines the verification of applications - saving the CE time and effort.
Why use Direct Verification?
- Reduce workload for school district staff
- Reduce burden and intrusion of families selected for verification
- Reduce the number of non-respondents and rate of benefit termination for non-response
Who should attend?
Personnel who work with applications and/or manage eligibility documentation
What to bring:
- TX-UNPS login and password that has access to the Direct Certification/Direct Verification link. Verify the TX-UNPS password has not expired or will not expire on the date of the lab
- Applications needing to be verified for the Verification process
Laptops will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you choose to do so.
