Driving on the Right Side of the Road
Instructor Tim Bryant Amarillo ISD
STOP! Don't speed past this training opportunity which combines social studies skills and important traffic safety issues. The State Bar of Texas Law-Related Education Department has partnered with the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center to create a workshop for grades K-3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and high school government classes.
All participants will receive a kit, at no cost, containing all of the differentiated units, appropriate support material, class sets of manipulatives for small and large group instruction, and on-line computer games information that incorporates specific Texas legislative and judicial processes while encouraging TEKS/STAAR skill development. The content by which these processes are illustrated focuses on traffic safety issues, laws, and the relevance of these laws in daily experiences.
Lessons incorporate Law-Related Education instructional strategies, as well as the opportunity to utilize judges and court support personnel as resource persons in classrooms.
The materials for early elementary grades K-3 and grades 4, 5, 7, 8, & H.S. Government include: interactive teaching strategies, mock trials, Do Nows, computer-based learning, and more. K-3 to include: center activities, easy reader booklets, Do Nows, map activities, sponge activities, matching card sets, sub lesson plans, and more. These classroom materials are supported by online resource materials in English & Spanish. The materials are aligned with social studies, language arts, physical education/health, and math TEKS.
Funding is provided by a traffic safety grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
