The Payroll Playbook: Best Practices, Reviews, and Final Checkpoints

This in-depth workshop is designed specifically for school district payroll professionals who want a clear, practical framework for processing payroll accurately and consistently. Participants will explore proven payroll best practices, common risk areas, and internal controls that support both efficiency and compliance.

The session includes a guided review of critical payroll data elements—such as employee pay changes, leave balances, deductions, benefits, contract pay, and supplemental payroll—highlighting what to review, when to review it, and why it matters. Real-world scenarios and common pitfalls will be discussed to help districts prevent errors before payroll is finalized.

The workshop concludes with a comprehensive, repeatable payroll checklist that can be used each pay cycle to verify all required steps are completed. Attendees will leave with actionable tools, greater confidence in their payroll process, and a shared “playbook” that supports accuracy, accountability, and timely payroll processing across the district.
