Connecting Communication and Instruction for Students with Complex Access Needs

Developed by the Texas Education Agency, this engaging training aligns with Social Communication from the Rubric of Effective Practices for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities and is designed to bring communication to life in your classroom. Participants will explore why communication is foundational to student success, uncover the powerful connection between communication and behavior, and gain practical strategies for teaching communication skills across a variety of student response modes. The session also highlights key considerations for selecting and developing effective communication systems while making meaningful connections between communication and daily instruction. Educators will leave with ready-to-use ideas, increased confidence, and bonus instructional materials to support student engagement, independence, and success.
