This professional learning session introduces the updated English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) set to take effect in 2026-2027 school year. Participants will explore key changes and learn strategies to effectively support emergent bilingual (EB) students in developing language proficiency. Through engaging discussions and practical applications, participants will discover how to integrate language support into content-area instruction.
Meet Our Presenter:
Allison Hand is an educational consultant with Seidlitz Education and co-author of the ELPS Flip Book 2nd Ed. Allison was an ESL/ELA and Newcomer teacher at both the Middle and High school levels. She served as an ESL Specialist at Region 13 working with all grade-level and content area teachers. She focuses on using research-based strategies to support students’ English proficiency growth while teaching grade-level content.
