Revision, Editing, and Extended Constructed Responses
Short-Constructed Response questions may ask students to demonstrate their comprehension but may ask for them to demonstrate their revision and editing skills. In this workshop, we will address how students may practice Revision and Editing skills in the classroom and connect to STAAR performance.
Extended-Constructed Response: In this workshop, participants will review Rater's Notes for trends and indicators of what response mastery looks like. We will explore the process of writing a single-passage. This process will include the reading, annotation, organizing, responding, and revising of the constructed response. identifying the likenesses and differences. We will also address the process of responding to a paired passage and identify the likenesses and differences of each type of writing.
For the Reading Category, teachers will review past STAAR questions, analyze student misconceptions, and address how to prepare students' thinking for the 2025 STAAR Assessment. Teachers will take part in annotation excercises, questioning rounds, and take time to evaluate their own comprehension of and connections to the sample texts.
Time will be taken for teachers to review the practices, discuss with each other, and plan how each practice will be implemented in their classrooms.
