Region 17 ESC Child Nutrition Summer Conference 2018

Hosted By Region 17 Education Service Center, the Texas Department of Agriculture, and the United States Department of Agriculture, our annual Child Nutrition Summer Conference provides a variety of course offerings for Child Nutrition professionals regarding compliance, operations, and skills necessary for maintaining a fiscally sound program.  Important sessions are planned to help not only those directly involved in cafeteria operations, but also those who handle reimbursement claims, applications/verification, and purchasing duties. Important updates will be provided on the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program as well as other program areas.  Attendees will gain valuable and current information from knowledgeable instructors in a comfortable setting for adults learners, in addition to obtaining continuing education credit hours.

 

 

For first time ESCWorks users:

An ESCWorks account must be set up for each participant in order to retrieve certificates for classes attended.  Please note that the email provided on your ESCWorks user account will receive all confirmation, evaluation and certificate retrieval notifications.  ESCWorks user accounts are unique to the individuals that created them.  Please do not use another person's user account to register.

Confirmation will be through email only via the ESCWorks system.  Please bring the confirmation email with you to the conference.

This class teaches CEs the basic knowledge and skills needed to participate in the USDA Food Distribution Program (FDP) for Schools. This class will provide an overview of Regular USDA Foods, USDA Foods Processing, the Department of Defense (DoD) Fresh Program, and the DoD Farm to School Program. Topics addressed include use of USDA Foods, using entitlement, and properly receiving, handling, and storing USDA Foods. TASN Level 1 or 3

This is Day 2 of a 2-day class. Participants must also register for Day 1 of this class to receive credit. Enhance your knowledge and skills in food safety and sanitation practices, HACCP systems and procedures, and proper management of the food service facility. The Food Manager’s Examination will be administered at the end of the second day of class. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, participants will receive a ServSafe Food Manager’s Certificate valid for 5 years. TASN Level 3-5

This course will take the mystery out of the reimbursable meal. OVS applies to menu planning and meal service. Important Breakout Information:
This class teaches menu planners how to plan a basic menu, advanced techniques that increase student acceptance. The course will also give an overview of the new MENU (Menu Enhancement and Nutrition) Module, a web-based system for menu planning, meal production, nutrition compliance, and meal cost analysis. Finally, the class will focus on working with the regionally developed Cycle Menu to customize it for your district, make compliant modifications, and perfect your use of the recipes and food production records. Participants should leave this class feeling equipped and empowered to make the Cycle Menu their own while staying in compliance. TASN Level 3
